Prof. Dr. h.c. Roland Berger is Honorary Chairman of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, Munich. He studied business administration in Munich and Hamburg. (MBA from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich)
Prior to founding his strategy consultancy in 1967, Roland Berger was employed as a consultant and ultimately partner at a leading American consulting firm based in Milan and Boston.
Roland Berger Strategy Consultants has grown to become the number 5 among the world's leading strategy consultancies with 51 offices in 36 countries and around 2,700 professionals worldwide. The company advises leading international industry and service enterprises as well as public institutions and governments.
Roland Berger was a lecturer in Marketing and Advertising at the Technical University of Munich from 1971 to 1972. Since 1996 he has been a lecturer and since 2000 Honorary Professor for Business Administration and Management Consulting at the Brandenburg Technical University in Cottbus. He is a member of the Boards of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich, and of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich. Furthermore, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the ifo Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich.
Roland Berger was a member of many commissions advising various German federal and state governments. The Portuguese State President, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, appointed him to the "Globalization Council Portugal". In 2007, Roland Berger was appointed by the European Commission's President Barroso to the "High Level Group of Independent Stakeholders on Administrative Burdens" headed by former Bavarian State Premier Dr. Edmund Stoiber.
Roland Berger is Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Finland in Bavaria and Thuringia.
He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of his private Roland Berger Foundation (endowment EUR 50m). The Roland Berger Foundation is committed to protecting human dignity and human rights worldwide, and to facilitating access to high-quality education for gifted children and young people from socially disadvantaged families in Germany.
