Over the course of history, human dignity has been disregarded in many countries around the world and it continues to be disregarded today.
In the 20th century, it was also grossly violated by the German government during the Holocaust and two World Wars. It is thus the desire of the Founder that the Roland Berger Foundation promote human dignity – and the respect, protection and realization thereof – worldwide from within Germany. "The Roland Berger Human Dignity Award" is intended to demonstrate that all Germans are committed to human dignity. It honors individuals, institutions or associations that play a successful and exemplary role in promoting human dignity and advancing international understanding, tolerance and a free and peaceful society.
The Roland Berger Award is endowed with 1 million euros. In line with the objectives of the Foundation, the award is intended to publicly acknowledge exemplary commitment and to reward it with financial support. The Founder aims to encourage people to follow in the footsteps of award-winning role models and become active in protecting human rights and dignity around the world.
Germany's Federal President Horst Köhler has assumed patronage of the Roland Berger Human Dignity Award and will personally present the award at an annual ceremony in Berlin.
